Accessing green space

Green space vs. blue space

Green space:

Any area of vegetated land, urban or rural. This includes both public and private spaces such as:

  • Parks
  • Gardens
  • Playing fields/sport areas
  • Children’s play areas
  • Woods/beach and other natural areas
  • Grassed areas
  • Burial grounds – churchyards/cemeteries
  • Allotments
  • Rivers and canals

Blue space:

Outdoor environments, either natural or built, that prominently feature water such as:

  • Streams
  • Ponds
  • Canals
  • Other water bodies

Hiring a wheelchair

You can hire a wheelchair from the British Red Cross for 1 to 20 weeks at £20 per week. All wheelchairs must be returned at 12 weeks for safety checks and mandatory servicing.

Transport services

BACT (Suffolk/Waveney area)

  • The majority of journeys are for transporting passengers to medical services and day centres on behalf of the local authorities.
  • For shopping family visits, “The Lowestoft Buzzabout” operates Mondays and Thursdays, 8:30am – 4:30pm

  • Door-to-door service, easy-to-access minibuses
  • Can be used for getting to medical appointments, going to the bank, shopping, visiting friends, accessing work/local clubs
