Equipment to Support Your Daily Living

Many people with neurological conditions find that the right equipment can make daily activities safer, easier, and more comfortable. Your needs may change over time, so the team are here to work with you to find the most suitable options.

What we can provide

Depending on your individual needs, we may be able to provide items of equipment to support your mobility, safety, or independence at home. This might include things like walking aids, small adaptations, or basic seating equipment.

We can assess for more specialist equipment if this could benefit your health or support your rehabilitation. We will always work with you to decide the options which suit you best.

Equipment you may need to purchase yourself

There are some items we don’t provide, like adapted cutlery, kettle tippers, or outdoor walking aids. If you need these, we can help you find suitable products and guide you to trusted suppliers or online resources.

Larger adaptations

If you need larger home adaptations, such as stairlifts, ramps, or bathroom modifications, we will need to refer you on to the appropriate service. This will often be social services, who specialise in assessing and arranging these changes. We will discuss this with you before making a referral, so you know what to expect.

Safety and maintenance checks

If you have been provided with equipment, it’s important to check it regularly to make sure it remains safe and in good working order.

  • Check the ferrules (rubber ends) on your walking stick or rollator frame regularly. Worn or smooth ferrules can cause slipping and increase your risk of falls, so need to be changed. Replacement ferrules are inexpensive and widely available if you can buy your own. Otherwise, please get in touch and we can arrange a replacement.
  • Look out for anything that seems broken, cracked, loose or unstable, and make sure all parts feel secure.
  • If the equipment is powered, check that the controls respond as they normally would. You should also pay attention to any change in how stable or supportive the equipment feels.

If you notice anything that doesn’t seem right, you can contact the equipment supplier directly. This is normally Medequip – you’ll know because there will be a yellow sticker like this one.

You can telephone Medequip on 01603 511124 (8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday).

Otherwise, please get in touch with our team.

If something doesn’t feel right

If your equipment no longer feels comfortable, safe, or suitable for your needs, please contact us. Your condition may have changed, and you may need adjustments or a new assessment.

If you no longer need the equipment

Please contact Medequip directly on 01603 511124 to arrange collection.

Walking frames without a Medequip sticker (like those provided from the hospital) unfortunately cannot be returned in this way. You can take your walking aid to your local council waste and recycling centre. They will be either be sent for cleaning and re-issued, or can be recycled.
